About Me

Born in San Francisco, Kim Marcellini is a musician happily drawn into the  world of composition. She is currently a graduate student in at San Francisco State University (SFSU) , where she had been studying for a degree in piano performance. During the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, her compositional interest became compelling enough to change from piano performance focus to the wild world of music composition. Formal studies began with Benjamin Sabey, Danny Clay, and Michael Gilbertson. In the MA program in composition at San Francisco State, she has composed for visiting chamber ensembles and voice, writing in a variety of styles. She especially enjoys writing vocal works. Her compositional approach has toggled between using more tonally based materials versus atonal. She  is currently working on a piece for voice, trombone, and percussion.
